Hospital Bag Checklist

As we’re getting closer and closer to baby girl’s arrival, I find myself adding more on to my to do list every day of things to get done before she comes. One of the last things that I need to do before going into labor is packing my hospital bag. If you know me, you know I’m over packing - but in my world, having too much is better than not having enough! Since this is my second pregnancy, I do feel like I am a bit more prepared in knowing what I will probably need or want during my time in the hospital. This time around, I am preparing items in my hospital bag not just for me, but for Ben and baby girl as well. Keep reading to see what I’ve decided to put in my hospital bag!

ESSENTIALS FOR MOM

Hospital Bag - While this is a given, you’re going to want to pick up a large bag to fit all of the necessities you’ll need for your time in the hospital. Make sure it’s big enough and has good storage pockets to maximize usage! We are packing a carry on and a diaper bag.

Nursing Bras - I’ve talked about this before, but I’ve never really been a fan of traditional nursing bras. The clasps are annoying and kind of hurt, so I went with these maternity bras that are soft and are great for breastfeeding!

Pajama sets (2) - Comfort is key and if I’m going to be laying around a hospital then I definitely want to be comfortable.

Postpartum Underwear - You’ll want your own undies after seeing the ones provided by the hospital. Bring some comfortable, cotton underwear that you won’t mind potentially ruining to prepare for postpartum recovery or better yet, these

Slippers - While I am unsure of how much I’ll actually be walking around, I want to be prepared for anything. I suggest bringing a comfy pair of slippers just in case!

Going Home Outfit - Think comfortable, leggings and a sweater during this time of year!

File Folder - A place for all of your important medical paperwork, insurance information, birth plan, etc.

OPTIONAL ITEMS TO CONSIDER

Pillows from Home - I don’t know about you, but I always feel better resting my head on my own pillow. No matter where I am, I always make sure to bring my pillow from home.

Nipple Balm - I use this one!

Upside down Peri bottle - Not extremely necessary since the hospital will give you one, but this is easier to use!

Dermoplast - This helps with itching, pain, and burning!

Stainless Steel Tumblers - Staying hydrated is so important throughout pregnancy and while in the hospital. I use these tumblers and metal straws almost every day because they keep my water so cold, so I know they’ll come in handy at the hospital.

Body Armor Drinks - We are bringing a pack of them with us to stay hydrated and fueled. Studies have shown that Body Armor helps moms with milk supply as well, how cool is that?

Cozy socks - The hospital will probably give you socks, but trust me, you’ll want your own from home. I love fuzzy socks, so I will definitely be packing a few pairs!

Name Bracelets - I love my “Aimery” name bracelet from this Etsy shop, and I can’t wait to start wearing baby girl’s name as well!

TOILETRIES

Pack a toiletry bag with all of your bathroom essentials! Your essentials may be different from mine, but here is what I’m packing:

  • Skincare

  • Makeup

  • Toothbrush/ Toothpaste

  • Deodorant

  • Hair Brush/ Hair Ties

  • Hair Dryer, Straightener, Curling Iron, etc.

  • Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash, Lotion

  • Chapstick

ESSENTIALS FOR BABY

Newborn Essentials - I love this Pot of Gold Newborn Essentials Kit that includes a fitted bassinet cover, swaddle, bow headband, and the cutest newborn nightgown. Not all of this is necessary, but will make for a cute hospital photo! Make sure to at least bring along a few sleepers and onesies!

Car Seat - While this definitely won’t fit into my hospital bag, I just wanted to include it as a necessity for your trip to the hospital. Make sure to have your car seat installed beforehand so that it’s safe for your baby! We decided on this one.

Pacifiers

Baby Socks

Baby Blanket

Going Home Outfit

ESSENTIALS FOR DAD

2-3 Outfits - I’m packing a few extra outfits for Ben that are comfortable and warm for the hospital!

Phone and chargers - The longer the cord the better! Since phone chargers aren’t only necessary for the dads out there, make sure you bring a few extras!

Water and snacks - I’d suggest packing a small bag of snacks because hospital food isn’t the best. Also a few water bottles, too!

Toothbrush

Deodorant

Wallet
