22 Week Pregnancy Update

Baby is as big as a coconut, just under 1 pound and 11 inches long! I try to write a “bumpdate” once a month, and this one totally snuck up on me! The second trimester has been such a breeze and I’m starting to get anxious to complete all the projects I want to get done before baby girl makes her arrival in four more short months. I have a whole list of things I would like to get done, including shifting all of our bedrooms around to make space for a nursery. It’s going to be a pretty large project that will keep me busy in the coming weeks! I have also been working on finishing up my registry and helping to plan my baby shower - this season of life is so fun!

HOW BABY GIRL IS DOING

We had our first ultrasound with baby girl this week and it was so exciting to finally see her! Due to COVID, my appointments have been limited since I’m having a healthy pregnancy. Baby girl is absolutely perfect, she has 10 fingers and 10 toes, and is right where she should be growth wise for her 10/31 due date! She was very active during the ultrasound and kept kicking the sonogram technician - it was too cute! I feel so much relief knowing that she’s doing so well. I also started feeling kicks (and punches, and somersaults!) this month. She is really active in the night and when I’m working out. Ben was even able to feel her kick on Father’s Day, which was the best gift she could have given him! I don’t have another appointment for 8 weeks, so it will be a while before I see my midwife again!

HOW I’M DOING

My morning sickness is now completely gone and I’m back to eating healthy meals throughout the day. My appetite has definitely increased since pre-pregnancy, and I’m craving lots of in-season fruit. Being pregnant during this time of year is so nice because it’s so easy to pick up fresh fruit and vegetables! My energy still hasn’t quite returned like my appetite has, I’m still exhausted throughout the day and have been needing an afternoon nap to make it to Aimery’s 9PM bedtime. Thankfully, I have a lot of flexibility with my current job to take lots of breaks to rest and even nap, when I need too. The only other “symptom” I have been experiencing is lightheadedness. I have always had low blood sugar, so when I’m pregnant I have to be extra careful about eating regularly and staying out of the sun!

HOW BIG BROTHER IS DOING

As I’ve started showing more, Aimery has already started to adapt to being more gentle around me/baby girl. We have been taking this time to teach him to become more independent, like getting ready by himself in the morning and buckling himself in his car seat (which we always double check!). Aimery kisses my belly every day and gives baby sister “hugs”, and it makes my heart melt. I know he’s going to be the best big brother!
